Dear Dr Flessenkamper: Congratulations on this large multicentre randomized trial; Endovenous laser ablation with and without high ligation compared with high ligation and stripping in the treatment of great saphenous varicose veins: initial results of a multicentre randomized controlled trial. The numbers are impressive, but the patient total falls fewer than the calculated statistical minimum required (469). Although the plan was for equal randomization between the three treatment groups, there were in fact more patients in the high ligation/stripping (HL/ST) group and least in the endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) group.
