Progress in radical chemistry of C_C bond formation reactions as well as C_heteroatom (halogen, O, S, Se) and C_C bonds cleavage reactions under reductive conditions, involving phosphonate C-centered radicals, is reviewed with special emphasis on the achievements during the past seven years in iodine atom transfer addition (I-ATRA) and cyclization (I-ATRC) reactions, which were developed in this laboratory.
