‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ is a popular English lullaby, sung to the tune of the 1761 French melody ‘Ah! vous dirai-je, maman’, which was later arranged by several composers including Mozart. The Star lyrics are by Jane Taylor, published in 1806 when the nature of stars was truly a mystery. A 21st century version seemed appropriate, not to disparage the charming original verses, but as an example of how astrophysics has enlightened our understanding and thus our enjoyment of the firmament.
