Scale-up Production of Betalains from Hairy Roots of Beta vulgaris in a Bubble Column Bio-reactor: Batch and Fed-batch Processes

摘要

Betalains are a class of violet (betacyanins) and yellow (betaxanthines) vacuolar water-soluble chromo-alkaloid pigments (see Fig.) posses-sing strong radical scavenging and cancer che-mopreventive activities.The scale up of the betalains biosynthetic process from flasks to 3 L bubble column bioreactors was successfully performed through batch and fed-batch regi-mes of cultivation.
