India has one of the lowest per capita energy consumptions among the developing economies,including Brazil and South Korea,implying that it has also the largest potential for growth in demand.However,its economy is also becoming more highly oil intensive.The more oil is used per unit of GDP,the bigger the negative impact on economic growth will be if prices continue to escalate.According to the Reserve Bank of India,every 1 rise in the world price of a barrel of crude oil adds 600mn to the country's import bill.
