Marathon pioneers wireless safety

Marathon Oil's Robinson, Illinois, refinery in the US (pictured above) has helped develop a new, potentially life-saving device. At this refinery site, workers can now be continuously monitored through a wireless device that not only helps keep them safe, but also provides an infrastructure to help improve productivity in the field. A worker protection innovation drive was started by the refinery's manager. As a result, the Robinson plant started looking into whether an intelligent realtime monitor 'man-down' system was available in the industry. 'We had a clear vision of a device to monitor and locate people but there was nothing available on the market that would suit our needs,' explains Kevin Bogard, Corporate Operations and Technology Manager.
