Gavin Thompson, Director of China Gas Research at Wood Mackenzie, recently stated that while he expects robust long-term growth in shale gas and coal bed methane (CBM) in China, the industry cannot compare China's unconventional gas development with that of the US, due to China's unique set of challenges. He also noted that it is also important to consider the corporate strategy of PetroChina, the likely leader in unconventional gas, in regard to the pace of near-term growth, making it more likely that unconventional gas will be a long-term solution to China's demand needs.
