摘要

Shell says it remains committed to continuing seeking permission for shale gas mining in South Africa's Karoo desert, despite the government recently placing a moratorium on all f racking applications in the area, writes Bill Corcoran in Cape Town. The country's Minerals Minister Susan Shabangu revealed in late April that her department had halted both existing and new f racking bids until the technique, used to extract gas from deep underground, had been studied. 'Until the conclusion of a feasibility study, no new applications will be accepted, nor will existing ones be finalised,' she said.
