How to install air valves: A detailed guide to the correct installation of air valves on pipelines

Air is always present in pipelines, however the air has to be managed through the installation of correctly sized, positioned and fitted air valves. Air valves are installed to provide three critical functions, namely: the removal of large volumes ofair through the large orifice during filling of the pipeline; the removal of small volumes of air during normal operation through the small orifice and the admission of air to the pipeline to relieve vacuum conditions on descending gradients.
