Ming & Agriculture meet: Can they find common ground for a sustainable future in SA

Mining in South Africa has been the main driving force behind the development of Africa's most advanced and richest economy. At the same time agriculture has a very important role in terms of food security and rural development, forming acritical part of our country's socio-economic and socio-political stability.Stakeholders discussed the mutual future of these two important sectors at AgriSA's recent conference on equitable trade-offs between mining and agriculture, held on 9 April 2013. In the middle of this tug of war lies our country's precious water resources, with hydraulic fracturing, or tracking, at the centre of the debate.
