Popular Gulf of Mexico auction

A total of 56 companies participated in the mid-June auction of leases for offshore blocks in the central area of the Gulf of Mexico, reports Judith Gurney. Apache, BP, Chevron and Statoil were major players in terms of the number of bids made and the largest sums offered. These four companies, together with Shell and ExxonMobil, made the most high bids. BHP, ConocoPhillips and LLOG Exploration Offshore were also heavy bidders with varied success.
