UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has unveiled a new ￡1bn package of measures to help families on middle and low incomes permanently cut their energy bills. Alongside targeted extra help for the vulnerable this winter, anc with new funding of ￡910mn from energy suppliers and electricity genera tors, it is hoped the new package will support the widest programme of energy improvement to UK homes since the conversion to North Sea gas in the 1960s.
