Major pipelay projects come onstream

Although the future of the offshore industry is clouded in uncertainty some significant pipelay projects were completed last year and a potential game-changing new vessel is preparing to start operation in the North Sea. Polarled was the first offshore gas pipeline to be laid across the Arctic Circle and the world's deepest pipeline of its size. The 482-km long 36-inch diameter pipeline will be used to transport gas from the Aasta Hansteen spar platform and has been fitted with six T-junctions for other developments along its route. It is designed to deliver up to 70mn cm/d of gas to Nyhamna. The Nyhamna terminal was originally built to handle gas from the offshore Ormen Lange field with processed gas exported to the UK and Europe through the Langeled pipeline.
