A unique biohydrometollurgical process for the treatment of refractory gold ores and concentrates has been patented. The process, named Geocoat, combines the simple and established methods of heap leaching with the increasingly important metals biooxidation and bioleaching technologies. The process is also applicable to the leaching of base metal sulphide ores and concentrates, particularly copper, nickel, cobalt and zinc.
