Oil begins to flow

Long overshadowed by neighbouring oil and gas countries, Ghana has emerged as a producer in its own right and-at the time of writing-was set to bring onstream up to 120,000 b/d from fields discovered in 2007 off the south-facing coast of the West African country. Much of the oil is located offshore to the west, near the border with Ivory Coast. The Jubilee field-so named to celebrate the country's Jubilee year in 2007-is thought to hold up to 1.8bn barrels of reserves.
