Material selection can be a daunting process, with thousands of metallic materials and even more non-metallic materials available for commercial use. Optimum material selection is not straightforward and poor selection can have negative consequences for businesses. A number of corrosion-related degradation actions occur in the process streams and utility systems of a hydrocarbon production plant, the most common of which are outlined in Table 1.
