The Energy Efficiency Directive from the European Union (EU) states that all companies other than SMEs or public companies must have an energy audit conducted on their premises every four years from 2015. Businesses will also benefit from incentives for the implementation of recommended measures and the introduction of energy management systems such as the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard. Trevor Floyd CEnv CEng MEI is part of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) working group that is considering how the UK can best implement the EU's Energy Efficiency Directive. Floyd says: 'All the benefits of having an energy audit still exist -saving money, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. But now the audit will be a legal requirement.'
