The current World Energy Outlook from the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that energy demand might increase by a third between 2010 and 2035, driven by global population growth and a greater need for energy in developing countries. This puts enormous pressure on our industry to find the resources and rapidly develop the technologies necessary to meet such demand, while contributing to the global effort to tackle climate change. For the oil and gas industry-the prominent supplier of energy for decades to come - this means seeking primary products in increasingly difficult operating conditions, both geologically and politically. In conference sessions during IP Week, much of the discussion has focused on these changes and on the increasing role of unconventional sources, highlighting key questions in terms of both safety and environmental impact.
