Security of supply in the UK petroleum retail market

The UK is a road transport nation both socially and economically -80% of commuters use the car, 80% of all freight moves are by truck/van and 100% of all foodstuffs are carried on our roads. Thirty-four million vehicles are powered almost exclusively by fossil fuels, thus the uninterrupted supply of petrol and diesel is of fundamental importance to our national security. The Petrol Retailers' Association (PRA), representing the UK's independent forecourt retailers, believes that a press release issued by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on 20 December 2012 commenting on Deloitte's Study of the UK retail fuels market, commissioned by its Energy Resilience Department, failed to highlight serious structural issues in the market.
