'Innovation', as described by Wikipedia, is the development of new customer value through solutions that meet new needs, unartic-ulated needs, or old customer and market needs in new ways. The oil, gas and petrochemical industry has seen many 'wow' moments in safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) products over the years. Consider, for example, the transition from a fall protection belt to an innovative full body harness with shock absorbing lanyard, or the addition of a five-minute escape/egress cylinder to an airline respirator. Innovations such as these have had a major impact in almost every industry.
