Even before the start of the four-day programme of conferences and exhibition, the notion of an industry in transition was foremost in the OTC delegates' mind. Speaking at a pre-OTC reception hosted by the Houston Branch of the Energy Institute (soon to be renamed El USA) at the Petroleum Club on 2 May, the British Consul General in Houston, Paul Lynch, left the 80 industry guests in little doubt about the scale of the changes the energy sector needs to implement to respond to the combined impact of high oil prices, ensuring security of supply and global warming.
