The Deciduous Fruit Industry Development Trust (DFIDT) is an autonomous body, which operates in the deciduous fruit industry in terms of, and within the parameters of its Trust Deed. It was created to house the assets of the former Deciduous Fruit Board, the proceeds of which could be used to: Fund the development, upliftment and promotion of beneficiaries with particular emphasis on the transformation, exposure and upliftment of previously disadvantaged individuals and communities, focusing amongstothers on training, mentoring, and providing information; Provide assistance to beneficiaries with the entry into and participation in the industry by members of previously disadvantaged communities; Identify and recruit suitable candidates from within the ranks of the beneficiaries for training and advancement in the deciduous fruit industry in South Africa, with particular emphasis on the transformation and upliftment of previously disadvantaged individuals and communities that qualify as beneficiaries; Liaise with provincial ministers, the National Agricultural Marketing Council, and other interest groups in the deciduous fruit industry with a view to collaborate on a development and training policy so as to promote training and development ofthe beneficiaries; Facilitate and fund market research and the generic promotion of the deciduous fruit industry to the benefit of the beneficiaries.
