Gulf of Mexico auction attracts majors

BP,Statoil and Petrobras dominated the August US Minerals Management Service(MMS)auction of leases to offshore blocks in the western Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Texas,writes Judith Gumey.BP,a much more vigorous participant than in recent years,made 108 of the 358 bids received at the auction,more than double the number made by any other company.Remarkably,91 of its bids succeeded,with 69 of them offering less than 250,000.
