The sealing effect of the oil in oil-flooded screw compressors leads to a higher efficiency at lower speeds, meaning a quieter operation and the possibility of direct connection to the electric motor drivers, thereby eliminating the need for a speed-increasing gear unit and keeping costs lower when compared with other compressor designs. High pressure ratios as high as 20-25 are possible in one casing. Such compressors also offer reduced sensitivity to gas composition, water content, contamination and molecular weight change. Furthermore, their compact design minimises the overall compressor footprint.
