Recently Statoil indicated it would aim to put a subsea compression system on its Asgard field by 2012 -with half an eye on the potential application of the same technology if it is to be invited to participate in Gazprom's Barents Sea Shtokman field.The announcement came within a week of rival Norsk Hydro saying it had awarded two pilot study contracts to Aker Kvaerner and ABB to develop systems to support subsea compression on the deepwater Ormen Lange gas field as an alternative to a platform-based field compression solution.
