Provisional figures released in the UK Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) Offshore safety statistics bulletin reveal a reduction in the total number of major and significant hydrocarbon releases in 2011/2012 to 52 compared to the previous year's total of 73. The number of minor hydrocarbon releases also fell from 93 to 75. In both cases these were the lowest figures in the last 10 years.
