Asia-Pacific oil and gas demand mixed in 2013

In contrast to the strength of Asia-Pacific oil and gas demand in 2012, in 2013 regional oil demand grew by 1.5%, just ahead of global growth of 1.4%. Regional gas demand growth was a little stronger at 2.2% compared with global growth of 1.4%. The Asia-Pacific region accounted for 33.4% of global oil demand and 32.5% of global refinery throughput, but only 19.1% of global gas demand. As a result, the region's potential to use a lot more gas is considerable, particularly as many of the key economies such as China and India have low percentages of gas usage in their fuel mixes compared with Europe and North America.
