A series of urea derivatives were synthesized from (lS,2S)-2-amino-l-(4-nitrophenyl)-l,3-propanediol and their antimicrobial activity was studied. The compounds synthesized here showed the greatest levels of activity against strains of Bacillus cereus, Staphylo coccus aureus, and Streptococcus haemolyticus. The search for urea derivatives as antidiabetic, psycho-tropic, and cytotoxic medicinal agents continues [1-8]. New urea compounds have been obtained with anticon-vulsive activity and anti-inflammatory properties [9-13]. Urea compounds and thioureas were obtained for the treatment of coccidiosis in domestic birds [14].We present here our results on the synthesis of a series of ureas (IV) prepared from (1S,2S)-2-amino-l-(4-nitrophe-nyl)-l,3-propanediol (I) by the scheme below and investigation of their antimicrobial activity.
