Search for Chemical Compounds for Pharmacotherapy of Neurofibromatosis Type 2

A murine embryonic fibroblast cell line (MEF NF2(-/-)) was generated to model neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), a serious inherited disease for which there is no pharmacotherapeutic cure. Screening of a library of low-molecular-weight bioactive compounds using the experimental cell line MEF NF2(-/-) and MEF NF2(f/f) as a control cell line identified two agents, lovastatin and cerulenin, as potential candidates for NF2 pharmacotherapy.
