摘要

Persistent mating induced endometritis (PMIE) is a major cause of infertility in mares. Routine therapies such as post-breeding uterine lavage with saline or administration of oxytocin or prostaglandin (PGF2) often fail to eliminate uterine infection. In a pilot study we wanted to investigate the effect of an oral administration of the mucolytic N-Acetylcystein (NAC) as a new treatment for mares with a history of PMIE. Mares (n=20) were assigned in alternating order to a treatment or a control group. At the beginning of oestrus uterine samples for bacteriology and cytology were collected. Furthermore, mares received human chorion gonadotropin. From this time point, all mares were treated with depotocin twice daily. In addition, mares of the treatment group received NAC (10 mg/kg p.o.) twice daily. Mares were inseminated with cooled-stored semen. A second collection of uterine samples for bacteriology and cytology was performed one day after ovulation. Uterine swabs revealed no bacterial growth. In control mares, the percentage of polymorphnuclear neutrophils (PMN) in cytology was 1.2+or-0.7% before Al and 1.8+or-1.1% after ovulation (n.s.). In NAC-treated mares, 3.8+or-2.4% PMN before Al and 1.8+or-0.9% after ovulation were seen (n.s.). At 14-18 days after ovulation, 4 of 1 0 mares in the control group and 7 of 10 mares in the treatment group were pregnant. Further studies should be performed to verify the positive effect of N-Acetylcystein on fertility of mares suffering from persistent mating induced endometritis.
