Ultrasonography of adrenal glands in the horse by transrectal visualization.

Adrenal gland ultrasonography is a very useful tool for the diagnosis of endocrine disease in small animal practice. In equine medicine, it is not previously used as a diagnostic technique. Additionally, there is a lack of knowledge about the physiological sonographic appearance of the adrenal glands. In this paper, the illustration of normal ultrasonographic appearance is documented. The measurements of length, height and width are possible in trotters up to 150 cm. Sonographic visualization is limited by body height. Further studies on diagnosing the pathological size and structure of the adrenal gland are possible using ultrasonography.
