Field development of flubendiamide (Phoenix~R, Takumi~R) for lepi- dopterous insect control on vegetables, fruits, tea, cotton and rice

Phoenix~R and Takumi~R (active ingredient flubendiamide) belong to a new chemical class of benzenedicarboxamides. Both products have an excellent activity against a wide range of lepidopterous pests on many field crops such as vegetables, fruits, tea,cotton, and rice. Flubendiamide has excellent fast-acting as well as residual efficacy and provides high crop safety under field conditions. The field results are stable without seasonal and yearly fluctuations. In addition, Phoenix is safe to useful natural enemies and non-target arthropods. This new insecticide is expected to be an excellent addition to Integrated Pest Management programs. Dose rates of Phoenix WG (20 % flubendiamide) for the control of lepidopterous pests in Japan are 100 mg a.i./Lon vegetables and tea and 50 mg a.i./L on pome fruit. In other countries the dose rates are 50 g a.i./ha on vegetables and cotton and 25 g a.i./ha on rice. Registrations have been achieved in Japan (Phoenix) and Thailand (Takumi). Further registrations are expected in India, China, Korea and Taiwan until 2008.
