Decubitus ulcers (DUs) or scars are partial or wide wounds of skin layers that affect mainly individuals with pathologies, those restricted to bed, and the aged. The area, texture, form, and volume of DUs are computable features, which enable quantitative and qualitative analyses both in regards to a specific instant and to the evolution of the healing process. The present study aims to identify features of DUs via viewing on a computer using the Karhunen-Loeve transform, by estimating the areas of scar cores and borders. The results show the efficacy of the approach.
