Peru has cancelled the registration of several "highly toxic" pesticide active ingredients (ais) on human health and environmental grounds. The Ministry of Agriculture has banned the use of: the insecticides aldicarb, endosulfan, methamidophos formulations containing 10% of carbofuran, and formulations containing 7% or more of benomyl; formulations containing 15% or more of the fungicide thiram; the herbicide alachlor; and the fumigant methyl bromide. The decision was issued by the Ministry last month.
