Adoption of integrated pest management practices in vegetable crops in Karnataka

Vegetables form an important part of the diet of human beings. Cultivation of hybrids and improved varieties of vegetables, off-season cultivation, intensive agronomic practices and indiscriminate use of insecticides have disrupted the delicate balance between the insect pests and their natural enemies. The importance of Integrated Pest Management (1PM) as a pest management approach, that embraces safety and health in the agricultural production process is widely acknowledged. Adoption of IPM in vegetable crops, can lead to multifarious benefits viz., cost effectiveness, sustainability, environmental safety, safe produce etc.
