While the number of basic manufacturers serving the pest control industry has shrunk due to mergers and acquisi-tions and the skyrocketing cost of developing new active ingredients — requiring a certain "economies of scale" to remain competitive — the same can't be said for the number of product suppliers that have entered the marketplace in response to this macro-economic trend. In fact, there have been so many new companies eager to meet the product needs of PMPs — often led by executives with extensive basic manufacturer experience — that's it's becoming increasingly difficult to identify the "players" without a program.
