Insecticide mode of action.

Two categories of insecticides, insecticides that target the insect nervous system and insecticides that do not target the insect nervous system, are duscussed. Insecticides that target the insect nervous system include those that target sodium channels (pyrethrins and pyrethroids, oxadiazines, and semicarbazones), those that target acetylcholine system (organophosphates and carbamates, neonicotinoids, spinosyns), and those that target chloride channels (phenylpyrazole, and avermectins). Insecticides that do not target the insect nervous system include muscular calcium channel toxins (diamide), insect growth regulators (juvenile hormone analogs, and chitin synthesis inhibitors), and inhibitors of energy production and non-specific cellular disruptors (amidinohydrazone, pyrrole, structural fumigants, and borates), insecticides that act via desiccation (dehydrating agents).
