Russian Infighting Scuttles BP-Rosneft Deal

The much-trumpeted strategic alliance between BP and Russia's state Rosneft seems to be dead in the water, dragged down by infighting between Russian political interests, analysts say. They say the most likely scenario now is for BP to be replaced by another foreign major in Rosneft's Arctic exploration project in the South Kara Sea (PIW Jan.24,p3). France's Total, which is already involved in the Shtokman and Yamal LNG proejcts in Russia's far north, is seen as a candidate, as is Royal Dutch Shell.
