EFSA upholds view that BPA is safe, rejects French warnings

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has once again defended its September 2010 opinion that the controversial food contact chemical bisphenol A (BPA) is safe, rejecting warnings issued by its French counterpart earlier this year.The European Commission had asked EFSA to review its opinion following the September 2011 publication of two reports by the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (Anses) on health effects and uses of BPA.
