New EU rules for active ingredient renewals finalized

The European Commission is close to issuing new rules on the procedures for renewing active ingredient (ai) approvals, in line with the new EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009), Agrow reports. Its proposals were voted through by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in July. The new procedures will apply starting Jan. 1, 2013, and will cover the third ai renewal project, dubbed AIR-3, which is just getting started. However, the ai evaluations already under way in the second project, AIR-2, will continue to be conducted according to the renewal procedures of the former EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414).
