After China claimed in May to have found a vast new inland reserve, just as talks on gas prices for its first LNG terminal reached a climax, so Reliance's recent gas find offshore eastern India has cast a pall over a BP-bcked LNG import project there. By offering a relatively cheap source of new domestic gas, Reliance could undercut LNG imports to the east coast and piped gas imports from Bangladesh (PIW Feb.25,p5).
