US refiners have been earning spectacular sums for several years and margins are still lofty,supporting strong share prices.The former chief executive of top US refiner Valero,Bill Greehey,memorably dubbed this the "Golden Age" of refining and nothing has proved him wrong so far.But a growing band of forecasters sees a less sunny outlook ahead.
