摘要

Problems are piling up at the supergiant Kashagan field offshore Kazakhstan which, with proven reserves of some 13 billion barrels and estimated peak production of 1.5 million barrels per day, will make up a significant chunk of non-Opec production in decades to come. The main headache facing the Eni-led consortium developing the field is getting first barrels on stream,a process that has been subject to repeated delays.Sources close to the consortium tell PIW that production start-up,which was initially targeted for 2005 and subsequently rescheduled for 2008,has now slipped to 2011-12 and may even slip further.
