Italy's Eni and National Oil Corporation (NOC) have announced plans for a near doubling of the country's gas-export capacity. In a wide-ranging agreement to further co-operation in the upstream and midstream sectors, Eni said the two firms would expand gas-export capacity from 8bn cubic metres a year (cm/y) to 16bn cm/y at the gas hub of Mellitah. This will be achieved by upgrading the 8bn cm/y Greenstream export line to Italy by 3bn cm/y and building a new 5bn cm/y liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. Further additional gas production will be made available for industrial use in Libya, Eni said.
