For all their high-tech equipment,the world's fleet of around 150 liquefied natural gas (lng) carriers relies on a type of engine first commercialised over 100 years ago -the steam turbine.Most of the 60 or so LNG carriers under construction worldwide will also use steam turbines.However,at the end of this year,the first LNG carrier to employ a different method of propulsion - a diesel-electric engine - is due to enter service and two more are under construction.
