Even more than pipeline gas,the liquefied natural gas (lng) business has been constrained by costs and market rigidities.Because LNG complexes are so costly to build,their backers have wanted to sell the product to just a few,blue-chip customers,under contracts running for 20 years or more.The delivered gas was too costly to compete with local pipeline supplies,so markets were limited.For security of supply,the feed gas had to be sourced from very large,dedicated fields - so low-cost associated gas continued to be flared and smaller fields remained undeveloped.
