摘要

PLANS TO develop a nuclear energy industry suffered a severe set back in September when a tender to build the country's first power plant received just one bid.To make matters worse, the bid came from a consortium of local Park Teknik Group and Russia's state-owned Inter RAO UES and Atomstroyexport-the shift to nuclear had been seen as a way of reducing the country's dependence on Russian energy supplies. In 2007,natural gas met over 31% of Turkish primary energy supply, with imports from Russia accounting for 64% of consumption. And with energy consumption rising by an average of 6% a year for the past five years, and few domestic resources to meet demand, energy imports are expected to grow.
