RELATIONS between the US and Iran have deteriorated after a few months of relative calm.On 21 February,Mohammed el-Baradei,head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),said Iran had failed to comply with the UN's demand to halt uranium-enrichment,after a 60-day grace period granted by the UN Security Council in late December.Since the start of 2007,the US government has been sounding increasingly tough and strengthening its military presence in the Mideast Gulf.However,like the European Union,the US continues to hope sanctions will work.
