CNOOC has completed a deal with Chesapeake Energy, giving China's state-owned companies their first foothoid in the burgeoning US shale-gas sector, writes Anne Feltus.The agreement also continues Chesapeake's pattern of picking up deep-pocketed foreign partners to fast-track its development of the US' gas-rich shale plays - and will give China access to expertise it needs to develop its own domestic unconventional-gas resources.
