THE RACE to exploit the Arctic's oil and gas can now officially begin,after the most authoritative study yet published claims the region contains greater reserves than those held by Russia,one of the world's largest oil producers.The US'Geological Survey(USGS)estimates the territory north of the Arctic circle holds 90bn barrels oil,1,670 trillion cubic feet(cf)of natural gas,and 44bn billion barrels natural gas liquids(NGLs)in 25 geologically defined areas thought to have potential for petroleum.
